Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is coming up, do you have anything special planned? I must admit, I don't. Fortunately, my husband understands and doesn't expect anything special for the day. I'm a bit unusual in that I don't get all wrapped up in dates and things.

We got our anniversary engraved on the inside of our rings so we'd remember the date. We both still forget it. The worst was the year we had asked my parents to watch our small children for the evening so we could go out on a (gasp) date. They called about six o'clock and asked why hadn't we dropped the kids off yet. Oops.

Valentine's day was fun the first year we were dating. The secretaries at my office had been gushing all day over how one had gotten a half pound box from her husband and another had boasted about her guy giving her a one pound box. I had never even heard of Godiva at that point. I was eighteen. I became enlightened later on that night when he presented me with a two pound box. I even managed to actually share the box with him and make it last over a month. Not much over, but I made it, so I can say it. I am something of a chocoholic.

So now, many many years later I look ahead to the upcoming Valentine's Day and think ... I'd like another two pound box of Godiva chocolates.

My wife thinks Valentine's Day is for grade school kids to exchange cards on, although now I've heard even that's politically incorrect. I usually write her a mocking Valentine's Day poem she can laugh at. :)

Hmm. Come to think of it, I'd like some chocolates, too.
But I don't think my hubby will get me anything. We are going to dinner on Friday night, though.
