A Day to Recover

Christmas is over, almost. The cleanup of present wrappings has begun. The tree will stay up another week but in the meantime we're rearranging things to accommodate a new ottoman that is storing the Rock Band accessories that my kids received from Grandpa, and we're moving my husband's office to my desk area since he's now working out of the house full time and I have a spiffy new laptop. Good thing the house got cleaned last week for our Solstice Brunch. Less stuff to move now.

We got the best Christmas present a couple of days before Christmas when we won the judgement against our tenants that won't leave. They didn't show up, and we had all our paperwork ready. By the end of January either they'll leave or the Sheriff's office will remove them. It's almost over. Yea!

I get a bonus gift this weekend since my Dad is off to North Carolina to visit with my brother and his family and he's taking two of my three kids. My oldest stayed home because he had a party to go to this weekend and he's seventeen. It's not as appealing to him to drive across two states to visit relatives. But the house will be considerably quieter over the weekend with them gone. Should be good, particularly since they all get on one another's nerves over the holiday break from school.

I've managed to get a fair amount of cookies baked for the festivities of the last week, we managed to actually get all our shopping done and wrapped, and everyone seemed to have a good time so all and all this turned out to be a really nice holiday. I hope yours was at least as pleasant.

Cookies! Did you say cookies!

Thanks for all the holiday greetings, everyone!

Charles, yes, yes I did say cookies. Chocolate chip is my specialty. :-) Lots of chips in every one.

I hope your wayward tenants don't trash the rental when they leave. If there's excessive damage done by tenants in that kind of situation, can they be criminally charged?

Have a great alone time, VL. :)

Hi Bernard, we can file a small claims damage suit against them if they do. Not sure about anything else though. We're looking at getting a lawyer now so I'll be asking about it. Thanks.

Another factor to consider is there's no enforcement in a small claims court judgment. You can win the judgment, but then you have to do the collecting.

Glad everything worked out with those tenants. That was a great Christmas gift!

Bernard, collecting is a pipe dream I think, but we're at the point we just want them gone so we can move on. The money would be nice, no doubt about it, but let's just get on with things.

Jennifer, thanks for the visit. Things aren't quite done, she claims she's going to appeal, but we have our doubts since she has to come up with a bond in the amount owed first. Still, we're getting there.
