Quote of The Week

"Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances."
- Thomas Jefferson

In light of our current landlord troubles, this quote comes to mind. Particularly since our delinquent tenant claims she will be appealing the judgement. The saga continues, unfortunately.

Great quote and oh so true. Yikes! Hope the tenant situations gets resolved quickly. I found your blog through another blog and had to click it because I was born and grew up in the Richmond Va area. Happy New Year!

Nasty. You have my sympathies. I'm going to be renting my house, so I hope I don't run into that sort of trouble, too.

I'm so sorry to hear that!

That's a great quote. I've always wanted to be like that.

I'm not a lawyer, but I believe there is no appeal when you're a no show in court. To get your property back, it may be time to hire a shark though.

Jefferson was right, but man it's hard.

LW, I'm just hoping they're not acting like mad dogs in the care of our unit. Thank you!

Chele, Thanks for visiting. Happy New Year to you as well.

Writtenwyrdd, make sure you read your state's landlord/tenant laws (VA has a separate handbook) and get a good written lease. That lease makes things so much easier and I've learned it scares many people into behaving themselves. Oh, and do a credit check on prospective tenants, excellent way to weed out potential bad risk tenants. Not foolproof though.

Spy, it tends to be my husband's motto lately.

Bernard, VA has an automatic appeal right, but she does have to come up with a bond and it's equal to the current judgement. Which means as long as we win, we'd get the money. :-)

Charles, yeah, it can be, no doubt about it.
