Quote of The Week

Given the bickering between the two leading parties running for the office the President, I thought this quote was fitting though I will forever hope we find someone who can do the job competently.

"Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule - and both commonly succeed, and are right."

-H. L. Mencken

Wow, that's perfectly said.

I will be glad when the sound and fury is over.

Oh, gosh. That is SO true. And I'm with Bernita. I'm frankly getting sick of it.

I have always considered Mencken to be my muse. Thank you. The man was and is and always will be, along with Mark Twain, the soul of American wit. Dorothy Parker ain't too bad either.

On the other hand, VL, Mencken also said, ‘An idealist is one who, on noticing that a rose smells better than a cabbage, concludes that it will also make better soup.' :)

Yeah Charles, I thought it was quite eloquent myself.

I agree, Bernita, I'll be glad when it's over as well.

I suspect there are a lot of us who just want it to be over, Syscribbler.

I like some of Dorothy Parker's quotes as well. She had a very down to earth view of things. Thanks for stopping by, Stewart.

But have you ever tried rose soup, Bernard? Could be he's right. ;-)

So True! And there's a quote out there along the lines of "people get the government they deserve" or some such sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Hi Virginia Lady. Sandwiched etween your quote and Bernardl's is a mouthful of wisdom.

Which is why,to this day, I vote for Walt Disney. Have you ever been to DisneyWorld? The streets are clean, the trash is always mysteriously picked up without anyone ever seeing a garbage man (it's hauled away by a below-ground conveyor belt), Mickey has assigned Goofy as head ambassador and Pluto as head of security, Tinkerbell circles high in the air around a marvelous castle and Peter Pan and Wendy are always knocking the bad pirates off the boat. The food is great and New Year's Eve is always a fantastic party.

Now that's my idea of government!

Thanks for commenting, Laughingwolf.

Writtenwyrdd, I believe it was Churchill who said the quote you are referring to though it has been attributed to Adlai Stevenson
“In a Democracy, people get the kind of government they deserve.”

And it is true as well.

The only problem with that is Disney is, um, I'm sorry to tell you, dead. Though, Lewis Black has a routine that talks about putting someone dead in office in order to scare away the terrorists. Maybe we should look into it. Perhaps some of the paranormal-hunting people could convince Disney to be president?

That'd shake things up a bit.
